Lottery is a game of chance, in which a number of players purchase tickets. The aim of the game is to choose a winning number. The prize is usually cash.<\/p>\n

The first known lotteries were organized in the Roman Empire. During Saturnalian revels, wealthy noblemen would distribute lotteries, which were primarily for amusement.<\/p>\n

In 1769, Col. Bernard Moore organized a “Slave Lottery” in which he advertised prizes such as slaves. He was reportedly the first to sell tickets in a lottery.<\/p>\n

The Chinese Book of Songs states that the “drawing of lots” was a game of chance. The word lottery may have come from the Middle Dutch term for calque, or “drawing of wood”.<\/p>\n

There is some debate as to whether or not the first known European pengeluaran sgp<\/a> lotteries were actually held during the Roman Empire. However, a record dating from 1445 at L’Ecluse indicates that a lottery was held at that time.<\/p>\n

The oldest known running lottery is the Staatsloterij, which was established in 1726. The game was a winner in the 1740s when Princeton and Columbia Universities were financed by the lotteries.<\/p>\n

A number of towns in Europe also held public lotteries to raise money. In addition to raising funds for local projects, such as bridges and libraries, these lotteries were hailed as a painless way to tax people.<\/p>\n

Some states and federal agencies use lotteries to raise funds for good causes, such as for schools and charities. A number of states have even joined together to create multi-state lotteries, offering jackpots of several million dollars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
